About

"The Mask" magazine showcases a collection of the diverse facemasks I encountered on the streets during the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic. This global health crisis has profoundly reshaped our interactions with governments, the outside world, and each other, with one of the most prominent changes being the widespread use of facemasks.
The genesis of "The Mask" concept arose from a powerful personal experience. I vividly recall the moment I witnessed a discarded facemask on the street during the peak of the pandemic, which left me profoundly shocked. That precise moment inspired me to capture the first photograph for this project.
The pandemic has undeniably marked a historical period in our lives, and my intention with "The Mask" is to document the profound impact of the coronavirus on our environment. Drawing inspiration from notable projects like Martha Rosler's "Bowery" and John Kippin's "Nostalgia for the Future," I am driven to capture the visual representation of these consequences.
Utilizing the medium of black and white photography, I aim to convey a multitude of emotions and eliminate any distractions caused by color. This aesthetic choice allows viewers to focus on essential elements within each photograph, such as the subject matter and composition, resulting in a more immersive and introspective viewing experience.
